The West Highland Way is 95 miles (152 km) long and has been a
footpath for travellers through the highlands for hundreds of years. It became the first
officially designated long distance route in Scotland, linking Milngavie to Fort William -
from the outskirts of Scotland's largest city to the foot of its highest mountain.
It is a
magnificent walk through some of Scotland's most inspirational scenery, passing along the
shores of Loch Lomond and over the wild Rannoch Moor and into the heart of the Highlands.
It is the most popular and best known footpath in Scotland.
The West
Highland Way can offer all types of accommodation including wigwams, bunkhouses, youth
hostels, b&bs, inns, guest houses and hotels. However, it should be noted that not all
types are available at every stage.
