This site was occupied at several different periods, beginning in the late Bronze Age between 700 - 500 BC. when a simple farmstead was established. This was succeeded by a blockhouse (a type of stone fort) and then by the huge circular broch. During it's heyday around 60 people would have lived at the Clickhimin settlement. A wheelhouse was added to the complex in the 2nd century
